Possibly Unique Painted China Marble Unearthed

Recently excavated from an 1870s privy. The use layer in which this marble sat for over 135 years was mostly early 1870s with a few 1860s bottles mixed in and the parcel which contained the privy was developed in as early as 1867. If I had to guess, I'd say the marble dates to the late 1860's ???? So far it seems that this particular design may be unique, have any of you other diggers/collectors seen a rabbit scene like this before ? The size is 3/4" and the condition is pristine.

  3. That marble you dug would be hard to top, unless of course the rabbit had been jumping out of a hat !! Great find !

  4. Nice find Numa, I like these old marbles. Haven't found anything like yours. Finding marbles in old mining towns is bad karma though! If the town got civilized enough to have kids running around... they were hard on bottles. Breakage rate certainly increased as they practiced their rock slinging.

  5. Hey Doc, the hole produced two cobalt Crystal Sodas and one Bay City. Other than the sodas and marble, the pit was WEAK !

  6. Weak Pit? Sheese down here on the Border I can think of at least 6 fellow diggers who if found 1 slick Aqua blob, would be hooting and yelling for the next week,, let alone finding 3 cobalts. Awesome. DB
