ANTIQUE WESTERN WHISKEY BOTTLE FIFTH EXTREMELY RARE | eBay

ANTIQUE WESTERN WHISKEY BOTTLE FIFTH EXTREMELY RARE eBay

Well here is a fifth you don't see every day on Ebay...    I guess it it going to get sold this time,  no reserve.

Is this the same fifth that was in Jeff's auction last year?  Were there two of them??

  1. After posting it for sale 3 times on ebay, I guess he has figured that his price of $18K is not the current FMV. It's rare enough that he should receive reasonable bids for such a bottle.

  2. Yes, that is the same bottle. There were some shill bidding that forced Jeff to charge the consignor the seller's premium for such shenanigans. AFAIK, there were a pair of each bottle "found". Two F & PJs, two E. Chielovichs, and a pair of Cutter "Birds". The bottles are "tainted" and aside from a single J. Moore that was sold at last year's Chico show I am unaware of others selling at any price.

  3. The Cassin's sold for half of what I expected...apparentely a few collectors stayed away. Interesting how some whiskies are "HOT" like Teakettles, and a few others, and many are languishing in desirability recently.( especially the slug plates, and flasks) American Bottle Auctions has some rare examples, and so far at least, there is very litte action on them. Maybe there will be a flurry of bids at the end, however it appears that the huge money being spent on figural bitters by a handfull of collectors has made six figure prices the norm. I believe that now is the time to pick up some great and rare western glass while everyone is chasing barrels, and green Drake's. The love fest among the "heavies" in the bottle world, and pats on the back when someone drops $200k on a bottle kind of humbles this small time western glass addict.Interesting times...

  4. Is there more drama with any other category of bottles than Western fifths? Closed at $5,877.77 by the way. Is that FMV for this example? Did the shenanigans drive down the final winning bid?

  5. I don't know if there is more drama with fifths, but this bottle had enough b.s. attached to it to scare away most bidders.

Sold for about half of what I would have thought. Did it actually sell??? Is the new owner a reader if the blog? Weigh in please!

  6. Third hand info
The bottle did sell and was personally picked up. I will leave it to the new owner to identify himself if he so chooses.
