Cutter "Mid-Crown"

I thought I would share a few photos of an E.Martin Cutter "Mid-Crown". I know these are not super tough to get, and I have handled many over the years. This example, however takes overall quality, and crudity to a high level. As some of you may know, I have really focused on the "slippery slope" of western bitters, and this has required me to gradually liquidate my whiskey collection to provide the necessary funding to build a quality bitters collection. Of the finest examples of which I moved along, many of which were unbelievably crude and whittled, this lowly Cutter ranks up there with the best of them. Super whittled inside and out, a huge top, and light golden yellow color...slag in the glass, strong embossing and beautiful condition, have made this one a "keeper" for me. I have owned them in green, multi-color shades of amber, bright lemon yellow, and this example outshines them all. I know there are some amazing examples out there, so let's see them! The Mid-Crown would be a good candidate for a display in Reno, or other western show due to the many colors they are found. DM

  1. Beautiful Mid-Crown Dale,
Glad to see someone posting on the site.
I think those big bottles on the top of the page just might scare pontential contributors. And just what are they sitting on?

    1. Sorry the Circles were up so long, still caught up in the Circle Cutter Shoot Out I guess.
Bottles sitting on the display designed by the Groberg Bros. See posts from early 2011. They had it at the Reno Expo. Earthquake proof is the concept. Spring loaded bottles make me nervous.

  3. Nice Mid Crown Mr. Millers Extra... Love these early fifths that come in all five "primary fifth colors". Dark amber, brown amber, yellow amber, yellow green, green. And the colors in between! I've got a few color runs started but none complete with all five base colors. Mid Crown E. Martin Cutter bottles are found in all five colors, the real green ones I have seen are of very thick glass.

  4. Roger,
Those four examples shown as the header for this blogsite are out of this world gorgeous! I'm beginning to really see the beauty in those old whiskey bottles. You just can't help but stare at those beauties!

    1. Yes the four bottles on the header are drop dead examples of the art of manufacturing western fifths. Is the CCH still in your stable?

  5. That's gotta be one of the best photos I've seen taken of a grouping of top 1/5's ! Natural lighting, color contrast, full shot w the embossing jumping out ! Awesome !!
I believe the shot was taken in Dennis B's window, back when he had his killer whiskey collection.
